Torah Reading for Week of Dec 30, 2012-Jan 5, 2013 – Tevet 17-23, 5773

[Moses] gave his soul for Israel, and they were called by his name… And where do we find that Moses gave his soul for them? – It is said…“and he went out to his brothers…and he smote the Egyptian”. So, because he gave his soul for Israel, they were called by his name (Mekhilta de-Rabbi Yishmael, Shirata 1, s.v. “et hashira hazot”).

Now, Moses could have thought this through carefully, and run away from the problem. He could have reasoned: Is it really worth while to endanger myself by killing this Egyptian?
Would it not be better for me to ignore this one incident, to remain the king’s son, and thereby be able to help the Israelites in the future? More than this: perhaps it is not worth killing this Egyptian, for in any case, he has already killed the Jew, so what good will killing this Egyptian do? Will that bring the Jew back to life? And in any case, maybe it is forbidden for me to endanger myself, since this is not a case of saving a Jewish life, since this Jew is already dead?
Moses, however, understood that this accounting is false.
Rabbi Meir Kahane continues in Peirush HaMaccabee on Shemot:
And he smote the Egyptian, measure for measure. He killed the Hebrew, and Moses killed him.
Samson expressed this same sentiment to the Jews who were afraid when they came to hand him over to the Philistines after he smote them:
And they said to Samson: Do you not know that the Philistines rule over us? What have you done to us?!
And he said to them: As they did to me, so I did to them (Judges 15:11).
This is a Jewish response!
“Parents have radicalized children,” reads the Intelligence Assessment, “husbands have radicalized wives (and some wives have radicalized or supported their husbands) … and siblings have radicalized each other,” it says.
“As this assessment has demonstrated, a large number of venues have been, and continue to be used to further Islamist extremist ideology. … As radicalization is usually a social process, it can occur wherever humans interact, in the real world or virtual ones,” it says.
This isn’t news to readers of this blog of course….

The Jewish Home political party will become the second-largest party in the next Knesset, according to a new poll published Thursday, which gives the ‘right-wing’ party 18 seats, putting it on par with Labor.
The poll, conducted by the Geocartography Institute on behalf of Israel Radio, shows Naftali Bennett’s nationalist faction making strong gains with less than three weeks to go till voting day on January 22.
The number represents an unprecedented surge for the nationalist-religious party, already making large gains in pre-election polling. Earlier polls had shown the party winning 12 to 13 seats, up from the three it currently has in the Knesset. (It has also merged with the National Union, which had four seats in the outgoing Knesset.)
The new ultra-nationalist Otzma Leyisrael party polled at six seats, according to the survey. This is the first time a survey has pegged it at above three seats, with a number of polls showing it not gaining enough votes to enter the Knesset.
The Israel Radio survey gave Likud-Beytenu 35 seats, making it by far the largest faction.
Overall, the poll shows a dramatic rise in support for the ‘right-wing’ and ultra-Orthodox bloc — up from 65-67 seats in most recent surveys to 74 seats — and a stark fall on the center-left.
This is all very good news. There is an unstoppable Jewish National Religious demographic spreading throughout Israel. That is the future.
Now is the time to join the Jewish future. Israel and the Jewish People must lead the fight against radical Islam.
The Islamic World sits on the sidelines while over 60,000 people have been slaughtered in Syria. Both sides in Syria butcher each other.
And when the IDF goes after Hamas as a result of thousands of rockets fired at Israel; the Islamic World condemns Israel and spreads lies of war crimes.
We can not give in to the lies.
We have to stay strong and continue to spread the truth.
