June 22 – 24, 2009 York and Queens Universities will Sponsor an International Conference to promote “The One State Solution”. The “One State” solution is a euphemism for the destruction of the Jewish state – a trope of the most extreme rejectionist elements within the “Palestinian” movement and their allies in Syria and Iran. The goal of terrorist groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah is to create an Islamic Republic to replace the Democratic Jewish State of Israel.

It has come to the attention of the Jewish Defence League of Canada that Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, a Federal Government Department is a sponsor of the Conference, “Israel/Palestine: Mapping Models of Statehood and Paths to Peace”, which is contrary to official Government policy.

WE, THE UNDERSIGNED request the immediate withdrawal of Canadian Government sponsorship from the Conference, “Israel/Palestine: Mapping Models of Statehood and Paths to Peace”.

I hesitated whether to accept the invitation to participate in the conference at York University on “Models of Statehood in Israel/Palestine.”

Such conferences, even when organized with goodwill, are frequently hijacked and become anti-Israeli events. However, the dilemma is always whether to leave the floor only to the most extreme and one-sided views, or to try to bring a different voice, one that attempts to display the complexity of the situation and presents a perspective that would not be presented if one were to stay away.

Reaction to the pressure put on the conference and the Jewish Defense League’s (JDL) activity against it, and the desire to present such a voice seemed good reasons to take part, and not to surrender to attempts to silence debate and curb academic freedom.

The Jewish Defence League of Canada Protests Against York University’s Anti-Israel International Conference

Glendon Campus (at Bayview and Lawrence) is the location of York University’s International Conference entitled: Israel / Palestine: Mapping Models of Statehood and Paths to Peace. The conference calls for a “One-State Solution” – a euphemism for the destruction of Israel. This conference is a deceptive campaign of misinformation being used to destroy the State of Israel.

The Jewish Defence League has mobilized the Jewish Community to action against this conference. The JDL protest will take place on Monday, June 22, from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm, outside of Glendon Campus. Hundreds are expected to attend.

*Open Letter* to the President of York University

Attention President M. Shoukri,

I am very concerned about recent statements from some of the members of York University’s “Task Force on Campus Racism”.

Barbara Kay reported in The National Post July 1 issue, [ As anti-Islamist, Tarek Fatah, reported here: "While one VP of the Canadian Arab Federation was throwing insults at Canada, another Vice President of CAF was on cable TV showering praise on the discredited leadership of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Appearing on a Muslim cable TV show, Ali Mallah endorsed the election of President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad as valid, and echoed the official line of the Tehran regime, claiming Western governments and Western Media were to blame for the current unrest in Iran. "]

According to the “Students United Against Racism” web site, one of the Task Force Members listed is Ali Mallah and this is how they describe him:

“Ali Mallah has served on the Board of Directors of the Urban Alliance on Race Relations for two terms. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Centre for Social Justice (including having served one term as Treasurer). Ali has represented the Canadian Union of Public Employees and the Canadian Peace Alliance at International Conferences in the USA, UK and Egypt. He is currently the Ontario Vice-President of the Canadian Arab Federation.”

According to this short bio, Ali Mallah “represented the Canadian Union of Public Employees and the Canadian Peace Alliance at International Conferences in…Egypt.” The conference in Egypt was sponsored by the Muslim Brotherhood Organization and reported Antiwar group backs working with Mideast radicals in the Ottawa Citizen May 9 2007. “Ali Mallah, who represented the Canadian Arab Federation, the Canadian Union of Public Employees and two antiwar groups, said Canadian delegates “made a very important contribution” in Cairo.”

I would like to meet with you and your Board of Directors to discuss ways to improve the York University “Task Force on Campus Racism”.

York has a serious problem. Those who identify themselves as “Pro-Israel” also have a serious problem at York. York staff and students cannot be comfortable on campus to simply teach or learn. This is a publicly funded institution with their main funding coming from the Province. York’s response to the problem, led as they are by this President, has been non-confrontational to those who openly demonstrate their hate against Jews/Israel. Instead, YORK appointed a task force with one of it’s members being Ali Mallah.

Meanwhile, the York Board sits quietly.

Rabbi Dov Begon, the Rosh Yeshiva of Machon Meir wrote the following about the Torah Parsha this week, ‘Pashat Balak’.

Wicked Bilaam, in his desire to curse Israel, was instead forced to bless them, in accordance with G-d’s will. His gaze encompassed the Jewish People from the start of time until the end of time. Of the start of time he said, “‘I see [this nation] from mountain tops, and gaze on it from the heights. It is a nation dwelling alone at peace, not counting itself among other nations” (Numbers 23:9). Rashi commented, “I gaze at their inception, at their earliest roots, and I see that their Patriarchs and Matriarchs rendered them as strong and formidable as these mountains and hills “They shall not cease to exist with the rest of the nations, but shall live on eternal”
